I am writing today because yesterday was the good 'ol Canada Day! Basically just Canada trying to have an awesome American Holiday in July! It was a lot of fun for me though for sure! I'll get into that later on! I'll start with updating you on how things are going up here with the missionary work! I am loving serving and everything involved there. It really is one of the greatest choices I could have made.
About the Missionary Broadcast. Yes, I watched it! It was awesome! great messages were shared. I love how the work is changing with the times. We have been able to see great reception from any type of media (Mormon.org, Mormon messages, etc.) and I think if we can take that to the next level and use it even more, especially in finding opportunities, we will be able to see the work move forward in so many other ways. I think it has such great potential because a testimony heard obviously has great power, but a testimony read is just the same. If someone can see that and feel the spirit in other ways, It will allow them to have that greater desire. I am excited to see what happens specifically in our mission though.
Things really are so good right now! I say that, even though, things are kinda slow in a way. We had a lesson with Kambo this week again, which was good. We are going over the Plan of Salvation in its entirety with him. He has learned it before, but things haven't been able to click with him. A lot of what gets him is he gets stuck on the Spirit World. We have been working so hard to figure out how to help them. We have been able to identify a couple of points that we do believe are what is keeping him from moving forward from that. We didn't make a ton of progress in our lesson this week, mostly just us writing down his questions so we could study them out at a later time and get back to him. I have found that even though I usually have an answer for some of those bigger questions, it's best to go study it out more, and come back with a much more complete answer. We will meet this week and answer some of his questions. Investigators like that are so tough, but good because they make you learn a lot!
We had two lessons with Neil this week. He is the guy that owns the theater! We have been talking a lot about prophets lately. He has been comparing the latter day church, to the church in Old Testament times. Which can make things a bit confusing in his mind! The way he stated it was that he will need to be convinced that what we are saying is the truth! I know of a couple ways to do that, just trying to figure out the best way. We are really just trying to get him to feel the spirit while reading the Book of Mormon. Another one of those tough situations where they say, "I read and prayed about the Book of Mormon, and I feel it isn't true." Well shoot! It's been tough. I know if we can get him to read it and really look for the truth, really desire the truth, he will be able to see that. I know he will be able to feel of the power that lies within its pages. So much work left to do there!
We had our lesson with Alanna this week too! She is doing well, still progressing, and as of this week now has work off so she can be coming to church each week! She really is so excited about the gospel. She has been flying through the Book of Mormon too. She is new to the whole religion thing, as she never grew up with anything, not really even a bible in the house. With her we have been really trying to help her see that we do have a loving Heavenly Father who helps in all things. That we have a Savior who truly does know how to help us in our individual circumstances. I think it is mostly about helping her see the application of the gospel in her life. She has a good testimony, and if she gets coming to church each week her date might be moved up to early August for her baptism. No need to rush though!
We decided that we should bike around too! The church provided us some bikes to use so we have been using those to cruise around town! I have been using this old 10 speed, skinny tires and all. Well let's just say, I broke it. haha I was pedaling up this hill in a pretty low gear, I was going hard at it, and the bike tire completely torqued and bent like crazy! haha it's hilarious! We were on our way to this appointment with like 4 Pilipinos! It was intense! We got there and they just all started to shout in tagalog, it was too funny! They are a good time to be around! We were there working with a recent convert, Sandra! We are working towards the temple this fall!
Jared! He is the deaf guy! We taught him all about the sacrament and importance of church. It was good! and yes, all done in sign! My sign is coming along. The only sign I am going to know though is going to be church terms! haha The sign language is coming along pretty good though, considering how long I have been doing it. I can have basic conversations in sign. I need to work on it more though. Today we have another lesson with Jared. It is helping me a ton to adapt my teaching to the needs of the individual. I am really beginning to see how I am here to help others truly just come unto Christ. It doesn't matter their "status" (active, less-active, investigator) I am here to do everything I can in my power to help all those around me see our Savior and Heavenly Father's love for them.
We had lots of adventures between last Monday and yesterday! Last week we went to this little waterfall just right outside of town and also crossed this big train bridge. Apparently no other missionary has done that, or at least for a while, so as soon as I heard that I figured we HAD to do it. SO we went and did it! It was awesome! In order to get to the waterfall it was so muddy, so I just went barefoot! Good idea? Not sure! But we made it! Then yesterday was even better! We woke up early and went golfing with two of the members! I Used some old clubs and just went at it! It was a lot of fun to get out and golf again after 8 months! No worries, it hasn't left me too much. Hopefully I will be able to go again soon! After that we had a big bbq with all sorts of people, which was fun. Then since we had nothing left to do, and we had the whole day off, we decided to go to the mountains! We went to a place called Nordegg, then to Abraham Lake, and then to a place called Crescent Falls! I miss the mountains too much! It was fun! I took lots of pictures that I will send after this! I love being able to be out and see more of the area that I serve in. We are supposed to go to the mountains like every Monday for the rest of the month I think too. I am so stoked!
I should probably get headed! After seeing what other missionaries write, maybe I’ll start writing you all less (: I love you all though! Go celebrate the greatest holiday ever this week! I'll talk to you all very soon!
